Markham To Announce New Auditor General

MARKHAM, ON ~ In October 2007, Markham Council approved the hiring of an Auditor General for the Town of Markham. Join Mayor Frank Scarpitti and members of the selection committee for the introduction of Markham’s new Auditor General.

Who: Markham’s new Auditor General

When: Friday May 23, 2008, 10 a.m.

Where: Markham Civic Centre, Canada Room, 101 Town Centre Blvd., Markham (northwest corner of Highway 7 and Warden Ave.)

Why:        This important position will help Markham Council ensure that the Town’s operations are being managed as effectively as possible.

BACKGROUND:

Markham is one of the first Ontario municipalities to hire an Auditor General. Auditors General have been appointed by Ottawa, Toronto and Oshawa.

The hiring panel for the Auditor General position included Mayor Frank Scarpitti; Councillors Joseph Virgilio (chair, Finance Committee) and Dan Horchik (chair, Budget Subcommittee); Warren Jestin, Senior Vice President and Chief Economist, Scotiabank; Darlene Klemchuck, Chair, Markham Board of Trade; and Frank Maw, President, Alexander and Associates (former President of Motorola Canada). Senior staff involved were: Markham Chief Administrative Officer John Livey; Director of Human Resources Sharon Laing and Commissioner of Corporate Services Andy Taylor.
