Great Canadian Steak Cook-Off
Whitby, ON – A first for Canada brought to us by The Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise and Harbour Days. Music, fun, water, sun and the aroma of BBQ’d steaks on the grill! Now that’s a summer celebration.
The Rotary Club do amazing work for the community and beyond. This year they celebrate their 20th anniversary and to help them commemorate the special anniversary come down to Whitby’s beautiful Heydenshore Pavilion Park on Lake Ontario this Saturday, July 26 all day to help them celebrate.
Inspired by the World Championship Steak Cook off in Magnolia, Arkansas, the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise sent down a team to the championships this past May to take part and compete in the festivities. Now the BBQ’s in Whitby are all ready to be fired up as more than 20 teams are participating in this inaugural event “The Great Canadian Steak Cook-Off”.
The Steak Cook-off works like this: Grilling teams (backyard chefs and steak lovers) will be provided with a selection of steaks to cook for the public using their own secret recipes and grilling techniques. During this time the team will select what they feel is their winning steak to submit to the panel of celebrity judges.
The first prize is $1,000.00 and the boasting rights to say “I cooked the best steak in Canada”! Second prize is $500.00 and third prize is $250.00. Tickets for the steaks are $18.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door.
Park your car at the Whitby Go Station and jump aboard a shuttle bus that will take you down to the lake from 11 AM – 11PM. Bring the kids, bring Grandma and all your friends because there truly is something for everyone. Great live music, Tall Ship Cruises and Deck tours, professional Water Ski Shows, Hot Air Balloon Rides, beer garden, vendors and art in the park. In the evening after the steak prizes have been handed out, there will be a Nautical Parade of Lights and Fireworks!
Acclaimed well-known local indie bands and seasoned pro’s have been brought in especially to entertain you. So come on down and support these great bands. The Rock stylings of The Hokum Runners.
